Land Rover South Africa has told CAR Magazine that all units of the Defender Octa Edition One has been sold in our market.
Introduced in July 2024, the Land Rover Defender Octa, which we sampled in January 2025, was designed to up the ante on the “standard” Defender 110. And to further this apex model’s exclusivity, a limited number of Edition One units were made.
From what we understand, only 2 000 Edition One units were available globally, with 50 examples allocated to the South African market. The “standard” Octa remains available, of course, and is currently priced from R3 663 600. However, recently, the British marque unveiled another special-edition Octa, the Octa Black. Although the automaker’s local arm hasn’t revealed just how many units of this model have been allocated to our market, it has said it “is available in limited numbers with exclusive pre-configured curations”. The Octa Black is priced from R3 979 500, making it nearly R260 000 more expensive than the “standard” model.
As a reminder, the Octa employs a BMW-sourced 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol motor, tuned to produce 467 kW and 750 N.m of torque, with an additional 50 N.m on tap when engaging Dynamic Launch Mode. According to the brand, these figures allow the Octa to dispatch the 0-100 km/h dash in 4.0 seconds, before topping out at 210 km/h when fitted with 20-inch alloy wheels, or 250 km/h when rolling on 22-inch items.
